The Department of Laws, Panjab
University, Chandigarh, having completed 129 years of its
establishment, is celebrating the same by organizing its first
National Law Fest- “DROIT MELANGE 2018” on 31st January and 1st
February. This two-day event aims at enhancing the knowledge base of
students, providing them with exposure to the practicalities of the
legal field. The Chairperson, Prof. Shalini Marwaha informed that,
“The festival name Droit Melange which refers to the right medley
of curricular and co-curricular activities has been chosen keeping in
mind the theme of the festival ‘Let’s Live Law’.” Multiple
cultural events have also been included in the Fest to provide a
platform to the students to showcase their talents.
The Fest includes the following 8 events:
1. Exclusively for Law Students- Client Counseling, Maxim Bee, Law
Quiz
2. For both Law and Non-Law students- Open Debate, Skit, Slam Poetry,
2. For both Law and Non-Law students- Open Debate, Skit, Slam Poetry,
Ethnic Fashion
Show and Treasure Hunt.
The
Inaugural ceremony shall take place at 10:00am in the Law Auditorium
on 31st January, 2018. The Chief Guest for the ceremony is Shri
Navjot Singh Sidhu ( Hon’ble Minister of Local Govt., Tourism,
Cultural Affairs and Museums and Archives- Govt. Of Punjab)
and the Guest of Honour is Shri Satya Pal Jain
(The Former Member of Parliament, Additional Solicitor General of
India, and Member, Law Commission of India).
The
Valedictory ceremony shall take place on 1st February, 2018 at 6:30pm
in the Law Auditorium and will be graced by
Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M. Singh Bedi (Judge, Punjab and Haryana High
Court) as the Chief Guest and
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Augustine George Masih (Judge, Punjab and
Haryana High Court) as the Guest of Honour.
The Judging Panel for various events shall include sitting Judges of
Panjab and Haryana High Court and Senior Advocates of Panjab and
Haryana High Court and other dignitaries from the Academia and
respective fields associated with the events.
In total 22 educational institutions/departments/universities are participating from across the country, with 180 registered participants till now. The participating universities include University of Jammu, Tamil Nadu Ambedkar Law University, Jamia Milia Islamia(New Delhi), Amity Law School(Noida), Geeta Institute of Law, Army Institute of Law and Chandigarh University amongst others.

Under the constant guidance of the Dean, Law Faculty, Ms. Anu Chatrath and the faculty members, our 200 students’ strong volunteer team of Droit Melange 2018 is geared up to make this pioneer event a triumph..
